Despite the central status of patience (ṣabr) in Islamic sources, the existing literature lacks a coherent framework for systematically explaining the relationships among the concepts associated with this virtue. The present study aims to address this gap by designing and validating a conceptual model of “virtuous patience” based on Qur’anic verses and reliable narrations. This research adopted a mixed-methods design with a sequential exploratory approach. In the qualitative phase, qualitative content analysis and grounded-data coding of selected textual sources were employed to develop an initial model. In the quantitative phase, the model’s content validity was assessed through the Delphi method and (CVI) Index. The findings introduce a three‑part model of virtuous patience as an active, knowledge-based process grounded in antecedents such as reason, belief in monotheistic teachings, and submission and servitude to God. This endogenous and dynamic process begins with attentiveness to monotheistic knowledge and firm divine intention, continues through managing the emotions and by forbearance, becomes operationalized through steadfastness, and is completed with hopeful anticipation of relief. The principal outcome of this process is existential growth and spiritual elevation, which ultimately leads to worldly relief and otherworldly reward. Accordingly, patience in Islamic thought is not a passive virtue but an active, multidimensional process emerging from rational–monotheistic understanding and culminating in existential flourishing and ultimate success.
