A Moral Analysis of the Problem of Revealing Secrets in Counseling (with an Islamic Approach)

Keeping secrets is regarded as one most notable moral principle, particularly in psychological studies of people and counseling and, therefore, it has been emphasized on in moral regulation of Psychology and Counseling Organization of IRI. Revealing secrets is a notable challenge met by psychologists and counselors. In this paper, using analytical and descriptive method, keeping secrets and its cases of breach have been studied on the basis of Islamic teachings. On the basis, revealing a secret is hardly permitted, that is, it is permitted only in such necessary cases that ones life or reputation demands. In such cases, a reasonable expediency in agreement with the rule of choosing the most important of those important cases and the rule of opposing the worst with choosing bad or worse cases. And some other cases of such permission have been referred to in the paper also.
